Is Somatics for me?

Clinical Somatic Movement is for anyone, of any age, who wants to live pain free, or to move better with more skill, mobility or strength.

The root of all pain, or stuck stress, is in the brain. Just as the brain learns to play music, drive a car, or ride a bike, it learns to hold muscles in permanent contraction around weak and injured areas, or in bad posture. Thus you lose the ability to move or relax certain areas of your body.

This creates pain or limits movement.

Somatics re-patterns the brain, giving you back the ability to move as your body was originally designed to move.

Somatic techniques are simple gentle, yet powerful, and can be done by anyone.

I haven’t had a Personal Best all year. After 3 private Somatics sessions, I ran a 400m PB of 58.9s in 35 degree heat on Saturday!

It is impossible, in today’s world, to live without experiencing mental stress or physical tension. Stress creates ‘footprints’ on the body in varying patterns. Through Somatic Movement, you learn to dissolve these stress patterns so that you move better and feel better.

Though yoga is also helpful in reducing mental & physical stress, I have found that Somatic Movement short cuts the process, dissolving tension significantly faster and re-patterning the brain pathways so that the body moves differently without reverting back to the old stress patterns.
