Just as music is not in the notes, but in the silence between the notes, so the real joy of life is not in the activities, but in the quiet between the activities.

From the outside, I look like a yoga teacher, a photographer, a writer and single mother....But that is just from the outside. Really, I create and hold space for connections to be made. What kind of connections? Well...all kinds really: Self to self. Person to person. Self to something greater. Self to thing (ie...health or breath or peace...). My camera, my pen and the practice of yoga are merely my tools.

But how did I get to be here? 

Hometown: I'm an East Coast girl. Originally from upstate New York and Raleigh, NC, I've been here, in and around Windsor, since 2003. 

Past Jobs: Business Development Director, Strategic Alliances Director, Jewelry Maker, Pastry Chef, Waitress, Manager of an Equestrian Center, Bartender, Customer Service Manager for Environmental Testing Company, File Clerk, Poet, Residence Hall Advisor for Gifted Teens and once, a Book Reviewer. 

Interests and Loves: My girl, of course...and our dog! Small gatherings with friends or family, thoughtful discussions, 85% dark chocolate, weekends at home, being out in nature, inspired food. Books. Health. Learning...always learning. Peaceful music. Oh yes, and coffee. Definitely coffee. 

Most Days: I'm up at 4.30. That's early, I know. Especially here. But that is when the world is quiet and when I make time for my own practice. Between 5.30 and 6am, I'm on the mat for my practice that includes both seated meditation and the Ashtanga Primary/Intermediate series. By 7.30 I'm finished and from there, my days diverge. I write. I teach. I mother. I photograph. I edit. Usually while drinking herbal tea from very large mugs. I sometimes nap...especially if I'm teaching through the evening.

I cook A LOT. The one thing I have yet to mention is that since 2012, I have been on a healing journey with my daughter in overcoming an autoimmune condition as naturally and holistically as possible. Diet is a major component of her healing and I am her self-appointed personal chef...for just about every meal she eats. I now know quite a bit about whole foods and inflammation. More than I ever expected to....


YOGA

I have been teaching yoga since 2013 and practicing, in one way or another, since 1999. To share this practice is a gift that brings me joy.

I have completed the 3-year, Level 4, 500-hour British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma, a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Ashtanga Intensive with Tim Feldmann & Kino MacGregor and a 40-hour Ashtanga teacher training with David Swenson. Learning this practice never ends and I constantly attend in-depth workshops offered by some of the world's top teachers. I am grateful for all of these teachers who help me on my journey: R Sharath Jois, John Scott, David Swenson, Kino MacGregor, Tim Feldman, Scott Johnson, Kia Naddermier, Phillipa Asher, Joey Miles & Louise Newton.  But no amount of learning can take the place of practice. It is my daily ashtanga practice that is my biggest teacher. It is this that informs my teaching and is my tool for growing through life.

Since I started teaching, I have been writing my own guided relaxation/meditations and am finally in the process of turning these into online courses. Stay tuned!   

PHOTOGRAPHY

I am a self taught, natural light photographer, inspired by emotion, nature and light. It is the connection between family members as well as the connection to the soul-self that I most love to photograph. 

Just as every person, and every family is different, every shoot is unique. However, given the chance, I most love shooting outdoors and in your family home...exactly where you feel most you.
